We have decided to spread our magical, mystical fairy-wings and bring the joy that is Sweatshop Labor NYC to another city. This Friday, November 2, 2007, we will be taking a two hour flight to Chicago to play the Life During Wartime monthly party brought to you by Chi-Town ballers Bald Eagle and Mother Hubbard. Saturday afternoon we will sleeping on a two hour return flight to make our residency at Macri Park in Brooklyn. I can barely think of a more horrible waste of carbon in the atmosphere than flying our hungover and/or drunken asses halfway across the country to play one show to then fly back, yet again, hungover and/or drunk. Perhaps Fedex-ing dog shit to a random address in Europe would be a greater waste of pollutants in the air. But, then again, that all depends on the reaction of the excrement recipients versus the audio recipients at The Darkroom, our Chicago gig.
Well Chicago, let me tell you a little bit about us. First off, we don't take ourselves too seriously. That is obvious. We are the type of guys who have not matured much since high school and would actually fly dog shit to a random address in Europe, preferably France. We have fun and make dance happen at clubs and bars all over New York City. We are damn good at it. We pack out events and dry hump the air in the name of dance, freedom, and the American Way. We appreciate that we don't live in some Middle-Eastern war torn hell-hole and respect those who do. We raise money for anti-sweatshop labor organizations via American Apparel t-shirt sales. We realize that being a good DJ is as important to music as mailing dog shit is as important to anthropology. We laugh, beat match, make fun of people, dance on tables, yell, kick squad cars, and, most importantly, miss phone calls from our parents and never check the corresponding voice mail. Come on out Chicago, dance your fucking feet numb, buy us booze, buy a t-shirt and help us crowd surf.
Or we will find out where you live and send you a gift-wrapped box of dog poop.

Common Folk Thurs. October 25th, 2007 (SL w/ Eamon Harkin)
This one is simple to explain. Eamon Harkin is a fucking amazing DJ. He is an old school DJ who grew up in war-torn Ireland where he found comfort and safety in music. He eventually migrated to the US and is a complete BEAST behind the turntables. We are honored to have him play. I cannot stress enough how you should not miss Eamon spin. He is the resident DJ along side our good friend Rok 1 at Studio B's FUN party. I can honestly say both guys are better than some of the headliners at there shows.
Find out more about Eamon Harkin.
HUGS fo Life!!!!!!!! (SL doing promotions for Hugs)
We are doing event coordination and promotions for this new amazing bar / lounge / venue in Williamsburg. It's at 108 N6 between Berry st. and Wythe st.
It's an amazing space and we have a crazy line up coming through for the first major parties. It is a perfect space to dance, perform shows and screen films. It is a cool spot as well to enjoy downtime, play some skeeball, Guitar Hero, or just kick it on some comfy couches.
Stop by, you will not regret it. It is not a douche bag infected spot like many of the new (shitty) places in the neighborhood. With your help we can keep it that way. Email us with any ideas you may have and we will get back to you.
There is a great buzz building and we are getting inquires from greats like Vice Magazine, American Apparel, Bloggers Delight, and our good friends at Palms Out Sounds. There will be amazing weekly, by weekly, monthly, and singular special events.
It's also a perfect place for photo shoots, films, tv shows, and such.
Friday Oct 26th 2007. Hugs opening party.

CMJ Party-hardy! (SL w/ Lauren Flax, The Bangers, Sup Magazine and The Black Ghosts)
I felt really stupid not knowing what CMJ (College Music Journal) was until about a week ago. In short CMJ is an authority of sorts on what is certified and stamped "new and hot!" music with kids these days. They come to NYC once a year to throw and participate in parties all over town. We are getting a piece of the action, with a little help from our friends. (Link list below)
Come out and play. Starts 10pm, Tuesday Oct 16, 2007. 200 Orchard St. NYC
The Black Ghosts
The Bangers
Lauren Flax
Mr. Headphones
'Sup Magazine
Sparks
Svedka Vodka

Common Folk Thurs. October 11, 2007 (SL w/ DJ Select)

This week at Common Folk we have a major guest DJ from Dallas Texas. $elect is truly a hard working dude. He throws parties all over Texas (which is not exactly as small state to cover) and does quite a bit of traveling elsewhere. From the looks of things $elect is one of just a few dudes holding Dallas down, thus giving him the ability to land big performers like Timbaland. He brings a grime to the clean-cut club scene and can spin records with the best of 'em. It is truly exciting to work with such a hard working DJ whose following is greater than Moses'. We are anticipating saddling up our ponies and hog-tying some long horns in Texas with $elect in the future. Learn more about $elect, and some.

L Magazine, get the fuck out my nightlife!!!

“It is hard enough to find someone who can (and is not afraid to) beat match…”
-L Magazine
This phrase is what was used to describe the winner for “Best DJ in New York.”
My friend Ruth told me that Lauren Flax received runner-up for the title in L Magazine October issue "Nightlife Awards." She had a copy of the magazine with her, and I had to see this for myself. Before, I only knew of L Magazine as the boring, little zine-sized mag they give away at the Laundromat. The kind of thing you pick up and put down within 2.5 minutes. With this magazine naming Lauren Flax as runner-up, I had to see who the winner of “Best DJ” was. His name is rekLES. I have asked many of my friends who DJ in New York who rekLES is, and every single time they have responded with a confused “Who?” or "What is L Magazine?" When you DJ in a town as small as New York, you tend to know pretty much everyone that is “doing shit.” Some you like, some you don’t, but you always know. I had to actually research this “rekLES” using a mixture of Google and MySpace. It turns out he DJ’s every second and fourth Friday of the month at The Skinny. That place is known for a crazy rip-roaring good time (sarcasm). I DJed there once. The place really is too skinny to facilitate any dancing. It’s complete with a two-dollar pool table and a bartender that says “Yeah, DJ’s pay half price on drinks,” while keeping a straight face. Not to mention a dazzling array of super douchey clientele. Either way, I’m just saying. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I had to put this out there. The best DJ’s in New York should have been Lauren Flax or Drop The Lime.
Talk amongst yourselves.
Here are a couple other fishy smelling "awards" they gave out.
“BEST REMIX OF A SONG"
Winner: ‘Tenderoni (Guns and Bombs remix)”
This is just wrong, or maybe a misprint. They never remixed that song. Maybe they mean the Fancy Footwork (Guns N Bombs Remix) or maybe the Tenderoni (MSTKRFT Remix).
If so they're great songs, I play them. But everyone knows the best remix is Feist's “My Moon, My Man- Boys Noize Remix” Stop fronting, boo.
“BEST PROMOTER"
Winner: Andy Shaw
"The man behind Shaw Promotions, Shaw has the foresight to see that a party could be a hit, and the follow-through to make it happen. He’s also such a good promoter he got himself on the very judges panel that confers this award! A master stroke.”
Are you reading this shit?!? Did they let him write this himself? I have seen the Shaw Promotions logo on flyers and wondered if some reggaeton or YouLikeHipHopMa? mixtape “artist” was guest DJing for the night (seriously, get your logo game up). That dude Shaw’s foresight is bananas yo!
Congrats to Studio B, though. I would say that shit was fixed because June was a judge and all. But the truth is it’s actually a dope venue that has sick parties like FUN. It's the only good reason to go out on Friday nights.
“BEST NIGHT TO GO OUT"
Winner: Friday
"Friday, I’m in love. The obvious choice? No, the bold choice.”
Are you kidding? New York City on a Friday night? Yuck! Maybe if you’re a girl and enjoy being groped by button-up shirt Jersey/Long Island trash. Or if you’re a guy and enjoy spitting on such trash.
Some might say I’m just angry for not being on this list. The truth is, I could care less. L Magazine is in no position to judge New York nightlife – this issue is proof. I’m also happy not to be in this magazine because the people that get it passed out to them in Penn Station will not be coming to my parties. I can sleep better at night.
Peas.
PS:
"Mark your calendars: Next Tuesday, October 9, one week from today, The L Magazine will be celebrating our First Annual Nightlife Awards (out now) at Lotus, cool location extraordinaire, right?"
To answer your question, not a cool location, at all.
