Supervixen is an amazing DJ that rolls with a crew that throws a party called "Now Thats What I Call a Party." It is a way better than "Now Thats What I Call Music volume 7." She has just finished up a Mid West tour along side Todosantos where they played Fly By Night in Chicago, Daft Crunk in Bloomington, and Too Much Love in Minneapolis. This week she will be blessing us with amazing sounds at Common Folk.
Check out Supervixen.

Pictures from Pennsylvania gig!
The link below will take you to pictures from our Friday gig entitled "The Common People Party"in Plains PA. The area is pretty back-road in small-town America. Being a true New Yorker, I tend to forget that something like 75% of America lives in areas more like Plains PA, rather than in an urban setting like New York City. I honestly can not remember the last time I had to worry about who was the designated driver or had to arrange pick up and drop off points for friends. I forget how lucky New Yorkers are for the fact that they can get plastered, stumble to almost any curb at 4 am, reach out any limb of choice, collapse in a cab, mutter an address, watch your journey on a television and poof! You're home. We are not exactly sober promoters over here at Sweatshop Labor NYC. I definitely had a reality check about The United States of America while being merely 3 hours outside of New York.
We decided to check out a Super Walmart at 3am and discovered that, in the future, independent business will die out like the polar bears in the name of inexpensive prices and network endorsement. For that reason, we justifiably ran the store and caused mayhem.
At a bowling ally I discovered that people still tell heart-felt, racist jokes and that beer can be served through a personal tap.
I learned that football is king and that you can never watch enough of it. There is always room for one more commentator and even more room for replays.
On the other hand, I learned that people take themselves way too seriously in New York. Esspecally when it comes to those involved with night life. People and acts think they are more popular and successful than they really are and people just cram into of each others successes, connects and ideas. Spread out a little, see the stars, look at some nature and breathe a little, like I did.
Once we got over the absurdly unhealthy portions of food, the over sized unhealthy portions of people, and the countless other things that are fucked up in small town USA, we met a great pocket of kids that are as progressive thinking, liberal and free spirited as any twenty something trying to make rent in Bushwick, sometimes even more so.
I would suggest keeping a close eye on these kids that throw these parties in Plains, PA, they are into it for all the right reasons and were really great to work with.
Check out, The Common People.

Common Folk Vs Common People, Plains Pennsylvania

Friday November 21, 2007 we will be finding a way to get to Plains Pennsylvania to play a show. From what I hear there is an undiscovered pocket of crazy kids that lurk outside Philly who throw insane parties and smoke tons of weed, which is pretty much what we are going to want to do after Thanksgiving.
Lets Do it.
Here is more info.

Common Folk Thurs. Nov 15, 2007 (SL w/ AC Slater)

This weeks Common Folk guest DJ is Remixer, DJ, and friend AC Slater. Not Mario Lopez of Saved By The Bell, but a dude with the same type of swag. AC has made most of his DJ carrier as a UK Hardcore DJ.
"I started the first US label for (UK hardcore) back in 2001. I got swept up in it, blah blah blah, got bored and here I am. I did some drum and bass too. I grew out of that crazy hardcore stuff. It just got boring. Now I want to DJ and make music I like."

I first took notice to AC Slater when I heard His Boyz Noise Remix. If you have never heard it grab it here.
It is pretty epic. You can also get some more of his tunes off of our homies Palms Out Sounds who recently featured him on their blog. His original music is just as dope as this remix and I highly recommend you check it out.
This weeks Common Folk is his belated birthday and sunglasses party. Shades and stunners are a must. As always there will be Free Zygo Vodka from 11pm - 12am and the regular cast will be there.
I could not resist.

The Sexiest and Hottest Remix Ever!
I sent this email to the Black Ghosts Myspace today.
"Someway Through This has the feel that electronica should have and all the passionate sounds hip-hop has lost. The the track as well as the The Skream remix have the heartfelt sounds that Timbaland has. There is not a single reason on Earth that The Black Ghosts should not be a household name. I want a signed 12"The other day I downloaded tunes, as I do everyday in my quest to stay ahead of the DJ competition, and one particular track slapped me in the face. Since I got it, I have been listening to it on repeat. The song is Skream's remix of The Black Ghosts "Someway Through This." I first encountered Skream through super DJ Heidi of Phonica records based out of London. I wanted to get some exclusive dubstep to take back to New York to give the genre a test run in some of my sets. The music is amazing and I recommend checking it out. Anyway, I was directed to other artists, among them the king of Dubstep Skream, who's first album is a classic and whose new album should not be missed.
I would have never thought that such a unique sound like Skream would be able to mix so deliciously with another amazing group. The Black Ghosts are one of my favorites.

Common Folk Thurs. November 8, 2007 (SL w/ Lismore)

This week at Common Folk Lismore will be performing live. I met the duo when we DJ'ed the Lolita Party a few weeks back at Glasslands in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The group opened for Purple Crush and it was an awesome surprise. Since then we have stayed in contact with the electro disco group and besides bringing them to you live this week, we would like to continue the working relationship. They were cool enough to allow us to host some MP3's on our blog. Download them and learn something about good music. They will be performing at midnight this Thursday.
