Common Folk, Thurs Feb 21, 2008

This weeks Common Folk is pretty large and in charge. Firstly, Lucas did an amazing job on this flayer. Secondly, our guest are dope as all hell. We have Bradley D the resident DJ at the ever growing Famous Friends party that we are playing next week along side him, Purple Crush, and Le Castle Vania. Something like 150 people have RSVPed for on Going.com. Which are big numbers for a gig that is more than a week away. You should do the same and not be lame. RSVP here.

Our other guest DJ is Prince Terrence (shown above) who is the new resident DJ at Dimitry's infamous High Voltage party at the Annex every Wednesday. Terrence is also the drummer of Young Love. I chatted with Dimitry recently, who had write up in Spin Magazine, about his new DJ partner in crime and here is what he had to say.

Johnsville: How did you meet Prince Terrence?

Dimitry: Though my friend Nick Hook, who played in a band called Men, Women and Children

J: What is it about Terrence that made you want him to be the resident DJ at High Voltage?

D: Just an all around awesome dude. Great taste in music. I was also tired of doing everything by myself! Ha ha ha ha!

J: When you say "great taste in music" was there a specific moment or mix that made you realize he had a good ear?

D: I had him guest DJ at High Voltage a couple of months ago and his song selection was the closest that I've heard any guest DJ to being on the same page as me. So that got me really stoked. we just kinda became friends from there...and the rest is history.

J: Since you linked up with him how has it changed or not changed High Voltage?

D: I just feel like Terry brings allot to the table. for example a couple of weeks ago he helped book the Cool Kids to come do a guest DJ spot. also, like I said before...it's just easier to have a party when you have someone else helping with things. I was always the resident DJ by myself and it would wear me out but now I can let loose a little bit more. He's also a great positive energy as he likes to have a good time just as much as I do. so we bring that energy to the party together.

J: If you had to pick the funniest moment you have had since working with Terrence what would it be?

D: I saw him crowd surfing at High Voltage like 2 weeks ago while I was DJing...that was ridiculously fun. and we also have a bunch of inside jokes that nobody would get even if I tried to explain them on here.

J: Which famous duo are you guys mostly like and why?

D: Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant. Mostly because of the hight difference. Ha ha ha ha. Oh and because we're both British

J: If Terrence was not your resident DJ, who would it be and why?

D: Duh, Eli Escobar, that guy inspired me to DJ. Everything he touches is gold. Most consistent dude in the game.

J: I think we are all done here, anything you want to add?

D: Anyone reading this should go out and try to support any party they can...the NYC nightlife is slowly dying because people refuse to go out and try new things. they want to hear Blister in the sun 1000 times or they wanna go to some model and bottle service place. try to seek out new parties and new things to do. support the scene...GO FUCKING DANCE!!

Tonight you can see both Bradley D and Prince Terrence at Common Folk. 131 Chrystie St. 21+ free Shango Rum from 10:30 - 11:30 as always your resident DJ's Sweatshop Labor will be there killing shit.
